Description
We love making Jeeps more useful in creative ways and this kit will now allow you to use your 2007-2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (JKU) in new ways that allow more flexible use of your back seat and cargo area. Coupled with our Overlander/Utility side panel conversion kit, this will now turn your JKU into a completely new platform for sleeping/camping inside your JKU. Although camping was the original design, this replacement door also has a incredibly more functional method for traveling with dogs. Doing the Overlander side panel conversion is NOT necessary to use this as a stand alone product. This replacement door can be used on a Factory JKU hardtop and can be reversed at any time in a matter of minutes.
This is a complete 1 piece fiberglass door with a small camper entry door that replaces both your factory hardtop glass and your lower steel tailgate door. Simply unbolt your factory hardtop glass, and unbolt your lower rear tailgate and replace it with this new 1 piece door. The 1 piece door will also open up like a normal 1 piece SUV door from overhead to allow full access into the cargo area if needed.
The rear door can be ordered in the following finishes:
- smooth black or white gelcoat
- black or white textured
- grey primer
The Overlandoor conversion kit consists of the following:
- 1 piece fiberglass shell
- 1 lockable camper entry door w vented window and screen
- 2 gas replacement gas struts designed to additional weight of door
- 2 lockable t handle to keep door closed and locked
- 2 door hinges that mount directly into your factory locations\
- 2 tailgate hinge bolt cover plates and bolts
Installation:
To install your new Overlandoor, you will only need a few standard tools. First remove your factory hardtop glass and leave the hinges on your factory glass. Remove the clips to allow gas struts to release. The wiper and defrost plugs on the glass are disconnected and coiled up and tucked into recess in factory hardtop. Next remove the interior plastic trim piece on your tailgate to gain access to the 3rd brake light connect and power lock connections. Unplug those connections and remove from tailgate and roll up on passenger side corner and zip tie. Next unbolt the tailgate hinges from the body tub side to completely remove your tailgate.
Next get a buddy and hold the new door up to the hinge bolt locations on the hardtop. Reinstall the bolts into the hinges onto the hardtop. Reattach the gas struts to the factory locations on the factory hardtop. Install cover plates over your factory hinge bolt locations DONE !
Frequently Asked Questions:
What happens to my spare tire ?
Unfortunately, the tailgate spare tire bracket is removed. Most bumper mounted swing away tire carriers should work with this conversion. Otherwise some other means of carrying/storing your spare tire will need to be utilized.
What happens to my rear tailgate power lock/key lock and 3rd brake light?
Both of those factory pigtails are removed and unplugged and unused during this conversion. The 3rd brake light connection can be rerouted and added onto the hardtop if needed. The new camper door entry and the T Handles have their own keyed locks that do NOT match your factory keys.
Is there any additional gaskets or sealing I need?
The Overlandoor hatch door utlizes your factory lower tailgate weatherstripping and your factory hatch glass weatherstripping. No additional weatherstripping is necessary.
