JKU Overlander/Utility Hardtop Conversion Kit

Description

The base hardtop conversion kit consists of the following body panels:

• two fiberglass rear half door delete panels (bolt in no drilling)
• two replacement fiberglass side panels with a flat window recess (* requires cutting hardtop see below)
• 2 part epoxy bonding kit to bond the new side panels to your existing factory hardtop.
• flexible rubber mini drip rail

* This kit requires cutting your factory hardtop and is not not reversible.   Once you have cut your factory hardtop you will be bonding the new fiberglass side panels into place from the backside so they will be permanently bonded and sealed onto your existing factory hardtop.

The new side panels that are bonded into your existing factory hardtop shell have a flat recess designed into them that now allows a wide range of window, storage, and access options that can be truly customized to fit your individual needs and purposes.   The factory window recess and factory rear glass on a jeep has compound curves thus making it almost impossible to mount off the shelf windows and access doors.  Our specifically designed panel has a completely flat surface that now creates a blank canvas to allow you to mount a wide range of standard camper style vented windows, compartment doors, rotopax amounts, jerry can mounts.

Mounting a standard RV/camper style vented window now allows cross ventilation in the back of the jeep if you are sleeping inside or have a sleeping platform without having to use troublesome screen vents on the doors etc.

After removing your factory rear doors and door hinges, the rear close out doors are bolted into place using the existing factory rear door hinge bolt and door striker locations.   These close out doors are NOT hinged and do not open.   They are simply closeout panels to allow the new hardtop panel to bolt to the lower part of door.    Additional smaller access doors or storage compartment doors can be mounted into the closeout doors allowing access to the lower floor for water tanks, pumps, inverters, or electrical connections.   If you already have factory rear steel half doors, our hardtop panels will work with those doors, but the door still will not be able to open while the hardtop is on the Jeep because of the mounting lip.  Our hardtop panels will also work with the Motobilt rear half aluminum doors.

The interior finish on the side panels and the interior of the lower doors is a white or black gelcoat textured finish.  The exterior surface on the hardtop panels can be black, white or grey primer.    Once you the panels are bonded into your factory hardtop, you have several different options for finish.   Your whole hardtop can be sanded and textured using bedliner or something similar or you can opt to automotive color match the hardtop and lower doors.  Vinyl vehicle wrap could also be used on the lower doors and/or hardtop as well.

Currently the kit is priced as only the panels and doors without any windows or windoor options.   We will be adding the vented window options in the coming weeks.  We will be offering a tinted vented sliding bunk window that would allow ventilation and a smaller half RV style window that allows ventilation but would also allow some of the flat window recess to be used for rotopax or other exterior mounted accessories and/or compartment doors.   A few pictures of these options are in the photos.

Complete hardtops with conversion already done will be available with panels already installed and these will be local pickup only here only at our shop.   We will not be shipping converted hardtops.  In this scenario, you can come to our shop and either swap your existing factory hardtop that we will then use as a core on another future customer conversion, and then we install your half doors, and the top on your jeep and send you on your way.   In that situation, we can texture the whole hardtop or automotive paint your new hardtop to be color matched etc.   If you want to keep your existing factory hardtop instead of turning it in for a core charge, you can also do that, but the pricing will be adjusted as if no core were turned in.  GR8TOPS can do the conversion on your hardtop for $950 labor costs.

Because this basically is still a core factory hardtop any aftermarket hardtop racks such as Adventure Rack Systems JK LowPro rack, RhinoRack, and FrontRunner racks will work with this conversion.

Although the modification to your hardtop is not reversible, there are no modifications that are needed to the Jeep body and thus returning to a normal 4 door JKU with either a factory soft top or factory hardtop is completely reversible in a matter of minutes.
