Just some quick information about your new JPOD that we introduced at the SAVE in Starke, FL on March 1.
The JPOD is a Personalized Overlanding Den that mounts to our JTRUK conversions on Jeep Wrangler Unlimiteds. We don’t have a full product page up yet, but we thought we could put some information here to try and answer some questions and also gain some input. So, here goes a lot of the of the initial information
What years of Jeeps does this conversion require?
We start this conversion using 4 door Wranglers from the JKU era of 2007 to 2018 and we also have the JTRUK cab kits for 2018 to current JLU Wrangler Unlimited models.
Does this require cutting the frame of the Jeep?
No cutting of the actual jeep frame is required. We do however cut the actual body and remove the back half o the Jeep body for the truck conversion process.
Does the POD have a cab pass thru from the driving cab to the POD compartment?
We are planning on adding a small pass thru window on our existing prototype. This will only be a window and not a full climb thru on the cab. The reality of the true pass through where you climb from the front cab into the rear of the cabin is not overly realistic.
a. the distance between the front 2 seats from shoulder to shoulder is only 12-14 inches so the actual practicality of someone trying to climb from the cab into the JPOD is not realistic. Additionally, if the person was trying to climb through the cab into the cabin while driving you would have a high risk of hitting the shifter thereby causing real problems.
b. as is with all pickup trucks, the frame and body do have some flex in them. The rear portion of the frame does have some natural flex in it and the box and the cab can move independently of each other when there is no pass through. If a pass through is created, the frame/body flex would need to be addressed so that the box and cab do not flex.
c. the JPOD was never intended to be a passenger compartment used for actual transit. From a production and liability standpoint, if a pass through was available that would greatly complicate the legalities.
The purpose of the pass thru window that we will be strictly for access to pets, air flow if AC is on in the cab, and/or visibility when you are in the JPOD and you might need to see out the front when parked/camping.
How much does the POD weigh?
The bare pod (no interior, no cabinets etc) is 475 lbs.
Can I customize the interior of the POD?
YES ! We are planning it more of a DIY build your own interior to get started. So, yes, you will be able build your own interior.
